Connecting Meta Pixel with your SmartBiz Website

  • Updated

The Meta pixel is a piece of code that you put on your website that allows you to measure the effectiveness of your advertising by understanding the actions that people take on your website.

Once you've set up the Meta pixel, you will be able to track the actions customers take on your website on your website.

Examples of actions include adding an item to their shopping cart, initiating checkout or making a purchase. The pixel receives these actions, or events, which you can view on your Meta pixel page in Events Manager.

From there, you'll be able to see the actions that your customers take. You'll also have options to reach those customers again through future Meta ads.

Events you can track using Pixel on your SmartBiz website

Page view Someone lands on a page on your website PageView

Step 1: Create a Meta Pixel

Note: If you already have a Meta Pixel created, skip to step 2.

  1. Go to Meta Events Manager.
  2. Click Connect data sources and select Web.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Enter a name for your pixel and click Create pixel. This will create a new ID that you can view in Events Manager. Note: Events from your Meta pixel are shared to a dataset, which groups events from different sources. Your new dataset ID is the same as your new pixel ID. Learn more about datasets.
  5. Enter your website URL and click next.
  6. Now select “Do it yourself”
  7. Select Meta pixel only as your setup option. Before clicking next, copy your pixel ID. You can copy your Pixel ID later as well.
  8. Click next, and close the setup box.

Step 2: Setup Pixel on your website

  1. Open the SmartBiz web app and navigate to the Growth tab on your sidebar.
  2. Select Meta Pixel and add the Meta Pixel ID you copied from your Meta Events Manager in the field below
  3. Click save, and confirm. Your Pixel ID is now setup on your website.

Step 3: Test your Pixel

Once you have added your pixel to your SmartBiz website, it will start tracking events. Visit the pixel dashboard in Meta Events Manager to see if your website events are being tracked by the pixel. You can also test your events by visiting the “Test events” tab to check if all your data is firing correctly. Most events should reflect within 5-10 minutes on your dashboard, but sometimes it can take up to an hour.
If you don’t see any data reflecting on your pixel dashboard, try deleting your pixel from the website and add it again. Recheck the ID before submitting. If you’re seeing any errors or warnings in the diagnostics tab, see how to troubleshoot them.

Setup Ads to drive sales

You can now start running ads to drive sales by choosing an event to optimize your ad for. See how to create website purchase ads. See which Meta Ads objective would work best for you. You can also track all your events and other detailed pixel activity. Visit the Meta Events Manager to learn more.

  • How to remove the Meta Pixel from my SmartBiz website?

    - If you want to stop pixel from tracking events on your website, you can remove the pixel from the website. Visit the Meta Pixel tab from the web app. Click “Remove” and confirm your selection. This will stop all events tracking through Meta Pixel from your website. You can add the same Pixel or any other Pixel anytime.
  • What should I do if no activity is being tracked on my pixel?

    - Your website events data should start reflecting within a few minutes on the Meta Events Manager. If you are unable to track any activity, recheck you’ve entered the correct ID in the Meta Pixel tab in the web app. We’d recommend to remove and add your pixel again to the website. If you’re seeing any errors or warnings in the diagnostics tab, see how to troubleshoot them.
