Introduction
Cash on Delivery (COD) allows your customers to pay for their order at the time of delivery, helping you reach buyers who are not comfortable with online payments. Enabling COD can increase order volumes, especially from first-time and high-intent customers.
This article explains how to enable and manage Cash on Delivery on your SmartBiz store using the mobile and desktop apps, and highlights important requirements to ensure you receive COD payments without delays.
Prerequisites
Before enabling Cash on Delivery (COD), make sure you have:
An active SmartBiz store with at least one product listed
Shiprocket selected as your shipping partner for COD orders
Completed KYC and bank verification with Shiprocket (required to receive COD remittances)
Access to the SmartBiz mobile app or desktop portal

At least one online payment method enabled if you plan to disable COD later
Note: COD payments will not be credited until Shiprocket KYC and bank verification are completed.

A. Enable Cash on Delivery (COD) - Mobile App
1. Login to your SmartBiz application and navigate to Profile.
2. Click on 'Manage Payments' and select 'Setup Cash on Delivery (COD)'.
3. Toggle the COD option to ON.
4. (Optional) Add additional COD charges. These charges apply to all COD orders.
5. Click on Save.
Once enabled, customers can start placing COD orders on your storefront. To receive COD payments, you must complete KYC and bank verification with Shiprocket, SmartBiz’s COD service partner.

B. Enable Cash on Delivery (COD) - Desktop App
You can also manage COD settings from the SmartBiz desktop portal.

Log in to SmartBiz on desktop and go to Settings.

Click Payments.

Toggle Cash on Delivery (COD) to ON.

(Optional) Add COD charges to cover handling costs.

Choose COD availability:
Available for all orders, or
Available only within a specific order value range

Set:
Minimum order amount (optional)
Maximum order amount (optional)

Click Save Changes.
COD will now be active on your storefront.
Note: To disable COD, at least one online payment method must be active.

Can I disable COD after enabling it?
Yes, but only if online payments are enabled on your store.
If no online payment method is active, COD cannot be disabled. -
Do I need to complete KYC to receive COD payments?
Yes. COD remittances are processed only after you complete Shiprocket KYC and bank verification.

How will I receive COD remittances?
Shiprocket shipping: Payments are usually settled within 7–10 business days after delivery.
Self-shipping: COD remittance timelines depend on your courier partner.

Can I ship COD orders immediately after receiving them?
Yes. You can start shipping COD orders as soon as they are placed.
Ensure your courier partner supports COD if you are not using Shiprocket. -
Can I add extra charges for COD orders?
Yes. You can add a fixed COD charge, which will apply to all COD orders.

Can I limit COD to certain order values?
Yes. You can define minimum and maximum order amounts for COD from the desktop app.
