Indexing your website on Google Search Results
In order for your website and its pages to be included in Google search results, they need to be included in the Google index. The Google index is similar to an index in a library, which lists information about all the books the library has available. However, instead of books, the Google index lists all of the webpages that Google knows about. When Google visits your site, it detects new and updated pages and updates the Google index.
Setup Google Search Console for your domain
First, check if your site is visible on Google
1. Go to Google
2. In the search bar, type in the “site:” followed by your domain (eg. If your site URL is decormyway.online, on Google you need to search for “site:decormyway.online”)
3. When you look under the search bar, you’ll see an estimate of how many of your pages Google has indexed
If zero results show up, none of your pages are indexed. To index your website or specific pages you can manually submit your pages to Google. This can be done in two steps, if you’ve never used Google Search Console before. We have listed down the process for you below.
Step 1: Setup Google Search Console for your domain
Note: Jump to step 2 if you have setup your Google Search Console
- Sign in to Search Console with your Google account: https://search.google.com/search-console/about
-
Add your domain: Use the domain property type to verify add your domain. Add your domain in the “Domain” option (without HTTP/HTTPS and www). Eg. If your URL is
“https://www.decormyway.online.” Enter “decormyway.com” in the blank space provided and click
“CONTINUE.
3. Then, copy the TXT record from the instructions dialog box.
4. In a new tab, sign in to your account with your domain registrar and visit the DNS setting of your domain.
5. Go to manage your DNS records, and add a new TXT record. For eg, if you’re using Hostinger, in the manage DNS section, in the DNS record type dropdown choose TXT.
6. Enter your txt record as follows and click “Add Record”:
- Name: @
- Value: [Paste the TXT record from Google Search Console]
- TTL: 1 hour
7. Now go back to Search Console and click “Verify.” Note: You may get a message that says “Ownership verification failed” at first. But don’t worry if the verification doesn’t work immediately. DNS record changes can take anywhere from a few hours to 48 hours to update. Wait at least an hour and try verifying again by choosing your website from the properties list.
8. On successful verification, you’ll see a confirmation message like below:
9. Next, click on “Go to property”
Step 2: Submit URL for Indexing
We will soon be launching sitemap for your website which should let you submit all your pages for indexing in a single go, however, for now, we request you to request indexing for your homepage and all top pages that you’d like to show up on Google. Typically, all pages eventually get crawled and indexed on Google, however, manually requesting indexing is the best way to get your pages indexed faster.
- In the “Inspect URL” box on Google Search Console, add the website URL you’d like to request indexing for. Add link along with https//: and www. eg. https://www.decormyway.online/
- Once the results show up, click on “REQUEST INDEXING”
3. Repeat the first two steps for all your website URLs that you’d like to get indexed.
It may take a couple of days for your request to be processed. You can check the index status of your page, by using the “Inspect URL tool”. If the page is crawled and indexed, you will see a similar result for you page.
If your page is not indexed, look for the errors highlighted by the URL inspection tool. If your pages have no error and crawl is successful, we suggest you to wait for a couple of more days before requesting indexing again.
