Google Analytics (Video Tutorial Included)

Curious about your website's performance? Who is visiting your store, where are they coming from, what are they doing on your store? Don't worry, you can capture all of these insights by setting up Google Analytics for your SmartBiz website in less than 3 minutes. This article explains the steps to set up your GA4 account and the essential reports that you can view to track visitors, understand their actions, and boost your online presence.

A. How to set up Google Analytics?

Pre Requisites -

  1. You need to have a Google account i.e. Gmail id and password to create your google analytics account. Please keep these ready as you will have to sign in to Google to proceed. You can use any google account - business or personal, whichever is easily accessible.
  2. Currently, you can set up Google Analytics only on the seller app in your mobile.
  3. Please note that GA reports are not mobile responsive. We encourage you to view these GA reports on (i) Mobile - download the GA app and login in with the same google account (Gmail + Password) OR (ii) Desktop - Login to Google Analytics on your desktop browser with the same google account (Gmail + Password)

Steps to create a Google Analytics Account -

Step 1: Click on the GA card in the new features card shown on the Home page OR Go to Profile >> Google Analytics.
Step 2: You can click on ‘How to get Started’ to understand the steps involved. Click on ‘Sign in with Google’ to get started.

Step 3: On clicking Sign in with Google, a new screen will open asking you to enter your Gmail id. Click next when done. Tool Tip - Enter the google account - business or personal, whichever you deem fit. If, you do not have have a google account, you can also use the CTA shown below to create a new account.
Step 4: Enter your password and Click on Next. Tool Tip - You can also click on ‘Forgot password’ to reset your google account password, of need be.

Step 5: After signing in successfully, a new screen will open asking you to share your google account details with SmartBiz. Please click on Continue.
Step 6: In the next screen, please click on Select all and Continue. This is needed to connect your SmartBiz website to the Google Analytics Account being created.
Step 7: After you click Continue, we will start creating a Google Analytics account for your website. You will be redirected to the SmartBiz by Amazon website for 5 seconds. Post this, you will land back on the app for next steps

Step 8: Now after you submit the gmail id, Google Analytics will check whether you already have an existing GA4 account set up with the gmail. You may have created or started creating one at some earlier point. Do not worry, you can set up multiple properties (each for a different website/ business) within the same GA4 account.
If you already have an existing GA4 account set up with the Gmail id entered, the system will fetch all accounts and ask you to select one to proceed. GA will create a new property within the selected account to track data for your SmartBiz website. If you do not have any account setup, your account creation will start and you will be asked to accept Google T&Cs.

Step 9: Next, depending on whether you have an existing GA4 account,

  • you have to either select the GA4 account to continue the SmartBiz property set up OR
  • you have to Click on Terms and Conditions button to accept Google Analytics T&Cs and complete your account creation.

Step 10: A new page displaying Google T&Cs will open. You have to do actions on this screen - (i) Checkbox the Google Analytics Terms of Service Agreement shown below (ii) Scroll down and Click on “I Accept”. This is critical. Without accepting GA T&Cs, Google Analytics account creation will not be complete.

After clicking accept, the user will see a success message in green on top, followed by a webpage blocked screen. Do not worry. Do not click on back. The screen will be redirect you back to the app in a jiffy.

Step 11: Once back on the app, click on Accept Cloud T&Cs. A new screen will open asking you to click on Accept. Once, the terms of the service are accepted, you will be redirected back to the seller app.

Step 12: As a last step, click on Verify to open your created GA account. Open clicking verify, the screen will try to load your GA account to verify successful account set up. Once, the account dashboard is loaded successfully, you will get a success message.
After dismissing the success pop up, you will be able to see your GA account set up with your unique Measurement Id. You will be able to click on View reports to access your GA console and start tracking your website performance. In the GA dashboard, you can see real time reports right away. Other traffic and funnel conversion reports (Acquisition, Engagement, Monetization etc.) will be generated every 24-48hrs. This means that you will be able to get comprehensive reports for all traffic activity that occurred on 1st June after a lag of 24-4hrs i.e. on 2nd-3rd June.

B. How to deal with errors while setting up Google Analytics Account?

If the system errors out in verifying your GA account set up, do not worry, Try again after 1 minute. If you are unable to complete your account verification even after 2-3 attempts, please reach out to support team for troubleshooting.

C. What all reports can I see in GA? When and where?

With Google Analytics, she can track her website traffic in real-time, understand where your visitors are coming from, and how they're engaging with the website. She can also look at processed reports generated every 24-48 hrs under differen themes of Acquisition, Engagement, Monetization and Retention. Within acquisition reports, she can see which channels are driving the most traffic to her site - whether it's organic search, paid ads, social media, or referrals. She can also track conversion across these channels,. This insight will guide her marketing budget allocation. She can track analyse which product pages are popular and how much time customers are spending on different pages. Further, she can also get detailed insights into the customers' purchase journey - she can view how many people started a session, viewed an item, built a cart and moved to final checkout. She can view the abandonment rate at each stage. Most importantly, she can double click on the checkout funnel - i..e see the number of users who initiated the checkout process, how many added address, how many proceeded to the payment stage, and ultimately completed the purchase. By analyzing the checkout funnel, she can pinpoint areas for improvement, reduce cart abandonment, and ultimately increase conversions.
