Introduction
This article demonstrates how sellers on SmartBiz can create and manage custom product variants to better represent their catalog. It covers adding new products, defining unique variant features, and managing variants efficiently.
Prerequisites
Before creating custom variants, ensure that:
- You have access to the Products section in SmartBiz.
- You have the product details, images, inventory information, and variant attributes ready.
Create a Product with Custom Variants
Navigate to Products and click Add Product to start creating a new product. This will be applicable both for the one-cross-one experience as well as the bulk upload experience.
Enter all the mandatory product details and attributes required to create the product.
Add Variant Features
To create product variants (for example, different sizes), click Add Feature and define the variant attributes you want to use. You can add up to three variant attributes per product, and these attributes will be common across all variants of the product.
Enter a Feature Name, and click Add to create a custom variant attribute. You can use custom attributes such as Material, Pattern, or Style to define your product variants.
For example: enter Material as the feature name, and add a value such as Cotton. You can similarly create other variant attributes and values based on your product requirements.
When you select Color as a predefined variant attribute, a color picker is automatically displayed, allowing you to easily choose and assign the correct colors to your product variants.
Note: Material was not available as a predefined variant attribute. Using the Custom Variants feature, you can create Material as a new attribute and add values such as Cotton.
Click Add Variant to create additional product variations. For example, you can set Size = 38, Color = Sky Blue, and Material = Cotton, then add the variant. Once created, the new variant will appear in the variants list alongside your existing variants. You can continue adding as many variants as needed by selecting different combinations of attribute values and clicking Add Variant.
Once you have added all the required variant attributes and values, review the details to ensure they are filled in correctly. The product variants are now ready for creation.
View Product Variants
After adding a variant, it will appear in the variants list below the product details. You can review all the variants you have created and continue adding new ones by clicking Add Variant and specifying different attribute combinations. This allows you to create as many product variants as required.
Edit or Delete Product Variants
To modify a variant, open the product and select the variant you want to update, or click the three-dot menu next to the variant and choose Edit Variant. To remove a variant, click the three-dot menu and select Delete Variant.
To rename a variant attribute, select the attribute you want to update, enter the new name, and click Save.
For example, you can rename Material to Fabric. Once saved, the updated attribute name will be reflected across all variants, while the existing attribute values (such as Cotton) will remain unchanged.
To remove a variant attribute value, delete the value from the attribute list, or delete a specific variant from the variants section. To delete an entire variant attribute, click the Delete (trash) icon next to the attribute.
Note: Deleting a variant attribute will also remove all variants associated with that attribute.
Bulk Upload
When uploading products in bulk, follow the same bulk upload process. You can define up to three variant attributes and provide values for each variant directly in the upload file. Unlike the previous experience, where attributes such as Size and Color were fixed, you can now enter custom variant attributes and values that best suit your catalog. This gives you greater flexibility to create and manage product variants across all your products.
